The Sceptre E249W-FPT is a cheap IPS monitor under $100 for office and causal gaming needs. It is a basic affordable monitor with good colors, wide viewing angles, ample connectivity, and a pair of built-in speakers. This monitor is one of our favorites because it offers so much value at cheap price that everyone can afford.

Although, it is a cheap IPS monitor, but the specifications and features are better than many similar priced IPS monitors. We think it is an excellent value for money monitor and is a steal deal for budget buyers who do not want to spend much.

The bezels on the Sceptre E249W-FPT are very thin making it perfect for multiple setups. This cheap monitor has a completely frameless chassis which makes it our recommended frameless monitor for office use.

Build Quality

Sceptre-E249W-Build

Weight6.02 lbs

The build of Sceptre E249W-FPT is plastic, but it is of very good quality resulting in good build quality than previous Sceptre monitors. Also, the parts seem very well put together.

Stand

Sceptre-E249W-FPT-Stand

Removable Stand – Yes
Cable Management – Yes

The Sceptre E249W-FPT has a removable stand so when you mount this monitor, it needs to be removed.

This monitor has a cable management hole on the stand for routing the cables. It is a perfect stand because it prevents wobble.

Ergonomics

Sceptre-E249W-FPT-Tilt

Tilt – 15° Backward, 5° Forward
Swivel – N/A
Height – N/A
Pivot – N/A

The Sceptre E249W-FPT has terrible ergonomics since it only offers tilt function, making it poor ergonomically.

It does not offers swivel, pivot, and height functions because it is a cheap monitor so the manufacturers have to cost-cut on the parts and functions.

Display & Performance

Panel

Panel Type – IPS
Panel Size – 23.8-inch
Aspect Ratio – 16:9
Panel Depth – 8 bits (6 bits+FRC)

The Sceptre E249W-FPT houses an IPS panel with 23.8-inch screen size and that offers excellent color coverage with wide viewing angles

This monitor comes with 16:9 aspect ratio with panel depth of 8 bits so it can display 16.7 million colors which makes it a colorful panel.

Screen Clarity

Resolution – FHD | 1920x1080p
PPI – 92 PPI

This monitor has FHD screen resolution which means 1920×1080 pixels resolution and that results in 92 PPI on the 24-inch screen size.

The screen clarity is fantastic because of the tight arrangement of pixels which makes it an ideal monitor for reading and office use.

Brightness

Peak Brightness – 320-nits

The Sceptre E249W-FPT has excellent 320-nits peak brightness and that is unbelievable for a monitor that is priced under $300. Even the expensive LG 27UL500-W can only reach 300-nits and that is impressive.

It should combat glares and reflections with ease making it a great monitor for well-lit rooms.

Contrast

Contrast Ratio – 3000:1

This monitor’s contrast ratio is 3000:1, which can dynamically reach 1000000:1, making it excellent for dark rooms, and the blacks appear consistent

Using this monitor in the dark feels much more better due to high contrast, so it performs well in dark as well lit environments.

Viewing Angles

Viewing Angles (H/V) – 178°/178°

Sceptre claims wide viewing angles, but we we think the vertical viewing angles are not that great, so mounting this monitor at a height on the wall should create a problem.

Color Coverage

NTSC – 72%
sRGB – 99%

The color coverage is standard 99% sRGB on this monitor, which is excellent for viewing SDR content. It produces rich colors making the viewing experience vibrant and true-to-life.

Response Time

Response Time – 5ms

The Sceptre E249W-FPT has 5ms minimum response time and it has decent motion handling for a cheap monitor. It is great for casual gaming needs because we have encounter very less or minimal blur while playing motion intensive games.

Refresh Rate

Refresh Rate – 75Hz

The refresh rate is limited to 75Hz only so that might not interest gamers. Still, it is a smooth monitor for basic use because the 60Hz feels very dated to be honest.

BFI

Black Frame Insertion – N/A

The Sceptre E249W-FPT does not have BFI (Black Frame Insertion).

HDR

HDRN/A

The Sceptre E249W-FPT is not HDR certified.

1x VGA

The Sceptre E249W-FPT has satisfactory connectivity ports for a cheap monitor. It offers dual HDMI 1.3 for video connectivity which is great and a single VGA port for connecting old devices.

1x 3.5mm Audio Input
1x 3.5mm Audio Output
