LG 29WN600-W Review 2023: 1080p IPS FreeSync Ultrawide

Lg-29WN600-W-Monitor

The LG 29WN600-W has been one of the best selling ultrawide monitors on Amazon. It is a comfortable ultrawide monitor from LG for programming and other work requirements.

I think it is a decent and perfectly sized monitor for professional needs, anything smaller than this for ultrawide is not the best fit in my opinion.

This ultrawide display from LG is an older model of the LG 29WQ600-W (read review) and because of that, our current contender comes at a lower price-tag with almost the same specifications as its newer model.

Above-Average

LG 29WN600-W

The LG 29WN600-W houses an IPS panel with 21:9 aspect ratio and that are perfect display specs for coding and video-editing use.

It is a budget ultrawide monitor so you should not expect top-level offerings, but it checks most boxes, enough to satisfy most people needs.

You do get built-in speakers with this monitor, but there is no adjustable stand, so I highly recommend that you mount this monitor on a good monitor arm.

The LG 29WN600-W has a comfortable 29-inch screen with IPS panel for office coding and reading needs.

This ultrawide monitor offers max 75Hz refresh rate, which is acceptable for casual gaming, but not for enthusiasts.

It houses a pair of 7W built-in speakers which should provide pleasant entertainment experience, but not all media support 21:9 aspect ratio.

Design & Ergonomics

Front

Lg-29WN600-W-Front
  • Monitor Type – Flat
  • Width – 68.81cm
  • Height – 40.66 cm

The LG 29WN600-W has a very professional appearance from the front.

It has thin bezels on the front and the chassis comes finished in black color.

The design is mostly clean and you get LG logo on the bottom bezel.

The stand has silver finish and that mixes well with black chassis of this monitor.

Back

LG-29WN600-W-Back
  • Depth – 20.94 cm
  • VESA Mount – 100x100mm
  • Ports Position – Back-Facing

This ultrawide monitor comes finished in white color on the back.

The white colors gives it a premium look, making it perfect for places where monitor’s back is exposed.

It is not that deep, so you will get a good amount of space on the desk.

There is VESA mount support at the back, and the ports position is back-facing.

Bezels

LG-29WN600-W-Bezels
  • Thinness – N/A

The bezels on the LG 29WN600-W are thin from three sides, so dual setup should work flawlessly.

We are not sure about thinness, but it seems very thin.

Build Quality

LG-29WN600-WBuild
  • Weight – 10.36 lbs

The build quality of LG 29WN600-W is good and the parts seem very well put together.

However, the parts are made up of plastic, but they are of a very good quality.

Stand

LG-29WN600-W-IPS-Stand
  • Removable Stand – Yes
  • Cable Management – N/A

The LG 29WQ600-W monitor has a removable stand so make sure to remove it while mounting.

It has mechanism for easily attaching and detaching the stand.

However, this monitor does not have a cable management hole on the stand for routing the cables.

Hence, it is hard to build a cable-free desk setup with this monitor.

Ergonomics

LG-29WN600-W-Tilt
  • Tilt – 15° Backward
  • Swivel – N/A
  • Height – N/A
  • Pivot – N/A

The LG 29WN600-W has bad ergonomics because it only offers tilt function, so the stand is very poor with adjustments.

It does not offer height, swivel and pivot functions due to its cheap pricing.

However, I recommend that you mount this monitor on a flexible monitor arm.

Display & Performance

Panel

  • Panel Type – IPS
  • Panel Size – 29-inch
  • Aspect Ratio – 21:9
  • Panel Depth – 8 bits (6 bits+FRC)

The LG 29WN600-W features an IPS panel with 29-inch screen size and that feels comfortable for coding and video editing use.

It comes with 21:9 aspect ratio, so the screen real estate is better than 16:9 monitors.

Apart from that, the panel supports 8 bits (6 bits+FRC) which is ideal for SDR content.

Screen Clarity

  • Resolution – 2560x1080p
  • PPI – 96 PPI

The LG 29WN600-W monitor has WFHD screen resolution with 2560×1080 pixels resolution and that results in average 96 PPI on the 29-inch screen size.

The display is excellent for reading due to the tight arrangement of pixels, and the screen space is enough to accommodate multi-tasking and video-editing timelines comfortably.

Brightness

  • Peak Brightness – 250-nits

The LG 29WN600-W has below-par 250-nits peak brightness but that is acceptable for an entry-level monitor.

There is an anti-glare coating on the panel which should eliminate most glares and reflections, but should not be placed in front of a window.

Contrast

  • Contrast Ratio – 1000:1

This monitor’s contrast ratio is 1000:1, which is standard for IPS monitors, and the blacks appear grayish in the dark.

It might not bother most, but if you do color-critical tasks in the dark, this monitor is not a great choice for you.

You should probably get a decent graphic designing monitor for optimum color accuracy.

Viewing Angles

  • Viewing Angles – 178°

The viewing angles are wide on this monitor.

It is common with IPS panels, and it is perfect for sharing your work with clients sitting on the side.

The vertical viewing angles are also great, hence putting this monitor at a height should not create any problem.

Color Coverage

  • sRGB – 99%

The color coverage is good with the 99% sRGB on this monitor, which is perfect for viewing SDR content.

It produces vibrant colors bringing the viewing experience true-to-life.

Response Time

  • Response Time – 5ms

The LG 29WN600-W has 5ms minimum response time which should handle everyday motion-intensive tasks.

However, it does not have LG’s MBR technology for reducing motion blur like on the newer models.

Refresh Rate

  • Refresh Rate – 75Hz

This ultrawide monitor can reach max 75Hz refresh rate.

There is no overclocking possible, but it should please most casual gamers.

However, gaming enthusiasts should get something else at this price-point.

BFI

  • Black Frame Insertion – N/A

There is no black frame insertion or any motion blur reduction technology on this monitor.

HDR

  • HDR – HDR 10

The LG 29WN600-W is HDR 10 certified, but we do not think is a great performer when it comes to HDR content.

Also, there is no wide color gamut support and the peak brightness is too low for HDR to shine.

Features

AMD FreeSync

This gaming monitor supports variable refresh rate. It supports AMD FreeSync at it max refresh rate for consistent and tear-free high refresh rate gaming.

Other ultrawide monitors from the manufacturer.

According to my research, the LG 29WN600-W is a decent ultrawide monitor for cheap price. We recommend this monitor to coders, and office professionals because of the screen real estate it offers.

There are some shortcomings, and this is not a perfect ultrawide monitor by any means, so my recommendation of this monitor is limited to beginners to amateurs only. It is not bad either.

In simple words, I would say, if you care about the display, this ultrawide monitor would not let you down. You will notice the boost in productivity because of the increased screen real estate (if you are coming from a 16:9 monitor).

However, if ergonomics matter to you, and your work requires a high resolution screen, then you should ignore this monitor, and spend some more bucks to get a capable ultrawide monitor.
