If you have been searching for the best 1440p gaming monitor, then you have come to the right place. The LG 27GL83A-B is the best 1440p gaming monitor that is backed by a quick IPS panel. Yes, you heard that right, it gets an IPS panel with a super-fast response time that handles fast-paced motions with ease. It gets support for FreeSync that helps prevent stutters, and it is also G-Sync certified, making it an excellent value for money monitor for gamers.
The LG 27GL83A-B is ideal for most tasks since it’s an IPS monitor. The screen resolution is also excellent, so apart from gaming, our current contender is also suitable for editing, programming, and other similar tasks. So, if you have been thinking of buying a gaming monitor that can also suffice your other requirements, keep the LG 27GL83A-B at the top of your list.
However, if you want a pure professional-oriented monitor, we recommend buying the LG 27UK850-W only if productivity is your top priority. It’s the best 4K monitor in the industry for productivity purposes. It also offers FreeSync so yeah gaming experience will be great on that, but 60Hz refresh rate seems quite boring in the era of high refresh rate gaming, so I doubt it would interest gamers much.

LG 27GL83A-B QHD IPS Gaming Monitor: Detailed Review
LG 27GL83A-B 144Hz Monitor
LG 27GL83A-B 144Hz MonitorWith that said, the gaming experience is going to be excellent on the 27GL83A-B. It’s also great for media creation with its accurate color screen, and it is also HDR 10 compatible, but there is not much use of it which we will discuss in the latter part of the review.
With that said, the gaming experience is going to be excellent on the 27GL83A-B. It’s also great for media creation with its accurate color screen, and it is also HDR 10 compatible, but there is not much use of it which we will discuss in the latter part of the review.
Design & Aesthetics

The LG 27GL83A-B has very much of LG’s design language elements. Even though its a gaming monitor, it looks more like a professional monitor from the front with its subtle, elegant, and minimal design. From the stand, you will be able to identify that it’s a gaming monitor because it has that sharp, aggressive design that sets it apart from LG’s design language.
The backside of the LG 27GL83A-B is delighted with red accents, especially that red ring in the centre gives it a bold look. It seems RGB lighting at first, but it’s just a red coloured plastic strip, so that’s quite disappointing because the RGB lighting would have been great there.
The front of LG 27GL83A-B has a three-sided bezel-free design to make it look elegant, which also benefits in multiple screens to give you that continuous look. The bottom is quite thick from compared to other sides because the LG branding goes there along with NVIDIA G-Sync label on the left.
Unlike ArcLine stands on other LG monitors, our current contender houses a sharply designed stand that offers excellent grip while consuming less space on the desk. These small things matter because many of you might not have enough room on the desk. It provides a couple of seamless adjustments for optimum comfort while playing games.
However, it misses out on the swivel function, which we will discuss in a bit. The point is LG makes the best stand mechanism. It so seamless and easy to adjust the monitor, and it doesn’t feel flimsy, which is excellent.
The LG 27GL83A-B also supports VESA mount with its 100 x 100mm holes so mounting this monitor on a custom arm will be super seamless.
Performance & Picture Quality

The LG 27GL83A-B is one of the best gaming monitors for 1440p gaming, and I’m going to tell you why. The phrase 1440p 144Hz refresh rate gaming is very popular among gamers. Our current contender offers the same with the right set of specifications for gaming and other tasks at a very competitive price. It houses a 27″ panel beneath that more of an elegant looking frame.
The resolution of 2560 x 1440p gives the right amount of clarity and sharpness thanks to its 109ppi. The brightness levels are excellent with an average of 350-nits which goes higher up to 600-nits while viewing HDR content, so that’s excellent. The static contrast ratio is best with 1000:1, which offers a superb and detailed view in dark scenes while playing games.
Talking about this monitor’s main highlight, the LG 27GL83A-B has the fastest IPS panel in the industry, yes, you heard that right. It houses blazing-fast 1ms response time which makes the fast-paced motions appear clearly on the screen. There will be zero motion trails visible, so playing motion intensive games will be super clear on this monitor.
As far as the refresh rate is concerned, our current contender has a quick refreshing panel with up to 144Hz giving you buttery-smooth actions on the screen. There are fast refreshing monitors available in the industry, but that would require more powerful computers. This set of specifications seems perfect for what most people can afford.
Putting the gaming perspective to the side for a bit, the panel on LG 27GL83A-B is ideal for more than just gaming. Firstly the 1440p resolution and its colorful screen make it a perfect contender for media creation. You get 99% sRGB coverage which is excellent plus the HDR 10 makes it a great monitor for creating and viewing content.
Features

The LG 27GL83A-B has a decent set of features mostly ideal for gaming. You don’t get those productivity features you get on the LG 27UK850-W, but considering this is a gaming monitor you get more game-oriented features.
You get NVIDIA G-Sync with FreeSync compatibility as well so it doesn’t matter whichever card you have, the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) will work seamlessly on this monitor. Now those of you don’t know what VRR is. In simple words, it matches the frame rates coming from your GPU with the display’s frame rate for tear-free viewing experience.
Moreover, it houses a feature called Black Stabilizer, which boosts the visibility in dark scenes. For instance, a sniper guy is hidden somewhere in the dark, which won’t be visible in a regular monitor.
However, when Black Stabilizer activated on our contender, it will make the sniper guy visible by tweaking the display.
Ergonomics & Connectivity Ports

The LG 27GL83A-B offers an adjustable stand with height, tilt, and pivot adjustment capabilities. It misses out on the swivel function, which is a little bit of disappointment for those who share the screen with their colleagues. It shouldn’t matter much as the panel is IPS, and the colors won’t fade when viewed from the sides. However, if you need the swivel function, you can mount this monitor on a custom arm with the help of VESA holes. You get 110mm of height travel to adjust your monitor with 5-degrees forward and 15-degrees backward tilt, which is excellent.
Talking about the connectivity ports, the LG 27GL83A-B houses dual HDMI ports, a DisplayPort 1.4, and a 3.5mm Audio Out port. You don’t get any USB port on this monitor, which is quite disappointing considering this is a gaming monitor.

The LG 27GL83A-B competes with AOC CQ27G2 and ASUS VG27AQ in the industry. The AOC CQ27G2 houses a curved VA panel with a lot of sharp and gamer-centric design elements. Whereas the ASUS VG27AQ offers a refresh rate up to 165Hz, which is a little more than both monitors. The difference won’t be much visible, but the features you get on ASUS VG27AQ are practical for gaming, making it a much more mature gaming contender.
The ASUS VG27AQ is undoubtedly one of the best gaming monitors, but it is priced relatively higher for a couple of extra features. Whereas the LG 27GL83A-B offers a great mixture of game and play plus the reliability of LG panels, which is why most people prefer LG over others. For mixed usage, we recommend the LG 27GL83A, but for sole gaming purposes, the ASUS VG27AQ would perform better. You can consider AOC CQ27G2 only if you have budget constraints because VA panels are exciting, and you won’t get that color pop as you would get on IPS.
