The LG 22MP400-B is the cheapest monitor from LG for home-office use. It is a Full HD monitor with a VA panel that is fantastic for dark-rooms. It offers excellent text-clarity right out of the box and that is why we recommend this monitor for office. The main highlight of this monitor is its affordable pricing that makes it ideal for bulk corporate setups.

This monitor is an upgraded version of the LG 22MK400A and it has many useful features, making it a perfect monitor for budget buyers. This is a great choice if you need a good monitor for the office to give your employees so they can extend the display. It is also AMD FreeSync certified so causal gamers will be happy.

The LG 22MP400-B has tight arrangement of pixels, resulting in optimum sharpness for reading and office use.

Casual gamers might be interested in this monitor because it has AMD FreeSync, but it is not a high refresh rate monitor.

It does not have built-in speakers so it is not a good choice for entertainment. Also, this screen size is not the most comfortable for media creation.

Design & Ergonomics

Monitor Type – Flat
Width – 50.96cm
Height39.58 cm

The LG 22MP400-B has a plain design and it looks heavy from the front. It does not have a frameless design and that makes this monitor looks ugly in our eyes.

It has LG branding on the middle of bottom bezel and it has square footprint of stand that does not take up much space on the desk.

Depth18.19 cm
VESA Mount – Yes (75x75mm)
Ports Position – Back-Facing

The LG 22MP400-B has a clean design from the back and it comes finished in black color. There is a big LG logo on the top of the monitor.

The monitor is quite deep for a 22-inch size and it requires decent amount of space from the wall. It has ports on the back and they are back-facing. It also supports VESA mounting through 75x75mm interface, but it is not in the middle of monitor.

Thinness – N/A

The bezels on the LG 22MP400-B are thick and that gives this monitor an ugly look. It is not the best monitor for dual setups due to possible black bars.

Build Quality

Weight6.17 lbs

The build quality of LG 22MP400-B is excellent. It feels robust and is a great monitor for rough use. This monitor is made up of plastic, but it seem to be of fantastic quality.

Removable Stand – Yes
Cable Management – N/A

The LG 22MP400-B has a removable stand and it can be removed while mounting this monitor on the arm or wall.

This monitor does not have cable management clip or hole for routing the cables. It is a stable stand though as it offers optimum stability against wobbles.

Tilt – 20° Backward, 5° Forward
Swivel – N/A
Height – N/A
Pivot – N/A

The LG 22MP400-B has bad ergonomics because it only offers tilt function. However, the tilt range is wide and it can go 15-degrees backward which is higher than most monitors.

Unfortunately, you cannot swivel, rotate, make this monitor go up-down.

Display & Performance

Panel Type – VA
Panel Size – 21.5-inch
Aspect Ratio – 16:9
Panel Depth – 8 bits (6 bits+FRC)

The LG 22MP400-B houses a VA panel with 21.5-inch screen size and that sits between the TN and IPS counterparts in terms of colors and viewing angles. Unfortunately, the monitor feel quite small and seems uncomfortable after long usage. Check out cheap 24-inch monitors and 27-inch monitors for better comfort.

This cheap monitor has a 16:9 aspect ratio panel with panel depth of 8 bits so it can display 16 million colors which makes it a colorful panel for everyday use.

Screen Clarity

Resolution – FHD | 1920x1080p
PPI – 102 PPI

This monitor has FHD screen resolution, meaning 1920×1080 pixels resolution and that results in excellent 102 PPI on the 22-inch screen size.

The screen clarity is fantastic because of the close arrangement of pixels, making it a perfect monitor for office, document handling, and reading.

Peak Brightness – 200-nits

The LG 22MP400-B can reach 200-nits at its peak and that feels satisfactory for indoor lighting conditions. It can go around 200-nits to 250-nits depending on the visuals, but it get the job done.

Unfortunately, the reflection handling is mediocre so do not put this monitor directly in front of a light or window. We have seen brighter monitors than this in this price category.

Contrast Ratio – 3000:1

The contrast ratio on this monitor is 3000:1, which can reach 1000000:1, making it excellent for dark rooms. However, the black uniformity is not that great.

Working in the night feels much more better on this monitor due to high contrast, so it performs better in dark environment than IPS monitors.

Viewing Angles

Viewing Angles (H/V) – 170°/160°

The LG 22MP400-B is not the best with viewing angles because of its VA panel. The colors fade while viewing from the side so it is not a great monitor to share your work with client or colleague.

Color Coverage

NTSC – 72%
sRGB – 99%

The color coverage is standard 99% sRGB on this monitor, which is excellent for viewing SDR content. It produces vibrant colors making the viewing experience rich and filled with colors.

Response Time

Response Time – 5ms

The LG 22MP400-B has 5ms response time and it okay for casual gaming purposes. The motions appear clear and blur-free so that is good for a monitor at this price. However, we have seen faster monitors (Acer SB241Y) than this at this price

Refresh Rate

Refresh Rate – 75Hz

The LG 22MP400-B has 75Hz refresh rate which is decent and if you are coming from a 60Hz monitor, then you will notice extra smoothness. It is great for casual gaming, but not a significant improvement over 60Hz monitors. Also, it is not enough to satisfy gamers.

Black Frame Insertion – N/A

The LG 22MP400-B does not have BFI (Black Frame Insertion).

The LG 22MP400-B is not HDR certified.

AMD FreeSync

This monitor has AMD FreeSync and that makes it perfect for causal blur-free gaming.

Reading Mode

Reading Mode reduces the blue light emission from the screen, which causes eye strain and fatigue.

Flicker-Free Tech

Flicker-Free Technology reduces the backlight flickering and provides a consistent viewing experience.

Dynamic Action Sync

Dynamic Action Sync reduces the input lag to the lowest to give the maximum responsiveness while gaming.

Video Inputs

1x HDMI 1.4
1x D-Sub

The LG 22MP400-B’s connectivity ports gets the job done. It offers a single HDMI port and a single D-Sub port. However, dual HDMI ports would have been great here.

USB, Other Ports

Unfortunately, there are no USB ports or audio input/output ports on this monitor.

That’s a Wrap!

We think the LG 22MP400-B is a near-perfect cheap monitor for office and causal gaming. Although, it misses out on speakers, but this monitor is potential contender for many buyers. Its small screen offers excellent sharpness making it a perfect monitor for office. It has reading modes for reading, AMD FreeSync for gaming and much more.

The only potential downside which we think would be turn-off for many buyers is its ugly design. If it would have a bezel-free design, this monitor would rock the cheap monitor category. Unfortunately, this is what it is, but the monitor is still a great choice, only if it costs under $100.

LG 22MP400-B: Conclusion

LG 22MP400-B

If you are okay with the ugly design and narrow viewing angles, then LG 22MP400-B is a great monitor for work, reading and office only if it costs under $100. We have seen monitors better than this, but the main USP of this monitor is its LG's reliability and service.
